Great salespeople make the world move everyday

The world moves around every single day because of rockstar sales folks. Yet, many people look down on salespeople, and on selling being beneath them.

All the wealth in the world can be traced back to the fact that somebody somewhere sold something to somebody else.

Great salespeople can’t be stopped. Here are 5 qualities that power their success:

1. Honesty: All great salespeople are honest. This is counterintuitive but true. The best sales folks are people of integrity, and trade value for value. A great salesperson lives on repeat business. The key to repeat business is trust, and the key to trust is integrity. Anybody can sell to one customer one time. A great salesperson builds relationships of trust on a foundation of truth about their product. If a customer catches a lie, the trust is broken and the relationship is over. Great salespeople never promise more than they can deliver.

2. Enthusiasm: Great salespeople are fired up about their product. Their excitement helps them sell their dreams. You get caught up with their energy and end up believing in their ideas. You get fascinated and want to please them. Their enthusiasm is contagious and it affects everyone around you.

3. Confidence: Great salespeople always brim with confidence, even in tough times. They never think they are beaten at anything - ever. No matter how bad things seem, they believe in themselves, their product and their future. Their confidence level is limitless, and this rubs off on everyone.

4. Courage: The biggest obstacle every salesperson faces is the fear of rejection. This is manifested in questions like “what will other people think of me?” or “what if people say no?” Psychological studies show that high achieving successful people are not overly concerned about what others think. Great salespeople never cater to their critics. They never worry about rejection. They are completely focused on their product and goals, and keep selling their dreams.

5. Persistence: The most important part of selling is persistence. It takes having faith in one's own abilities. Great salespeople know that nothing that is worthwhile comes easy. They don’t listen to naysayers. They absorb the blows and soldier on, fuelled by an utter and total belief in their vision. Great sales folks are finishers.

Selling is one of the most honourable and rewarding professions. It is also one of the toughest. Nobody is comfortable selling, but nobody also became successful by being within their comfort zone. So the next time you come across a great salesperson trying to sell you something, give them the respect they deserve.
